Magical holiday wishes
This artwork was crafted in 2004 when I originally titled it “Wishbone” (because the horse is jumping through a wishbone shape.) In 2021, I’ve added the celebratory golden coins (yay, we made it!) and the proportional ratio that corresponds to popular phone and desktop wallpapers. Carefully, I attached vibrant hues of tissue paper in between the black paper silhouettes. I hung the final piece in a westward facing window and photographed it while backlit by the setting sun. This allowed me to capture the most luminescent colors filtering through the tissue paper. After importing the digital image from my camera to my computer, I fine-tuned it with Adobe Photoshop. My goal was to emulate the translucent light captured by the tissue paper piece. From Photoshop, I sent the image to a seven-color ink jet printer loaded with archival inks. The final image is printed on specially treated linen paper. I made an edition of 100 prints to give as holiday gifts to friends and family…
